  • built in 1810 to coincide with the opening of the Kennet and Avon Canal
  • The original was called the George, there was a slaughter house, coach house and stabling for horses, small brewery,  bake and smoke house and cart shed.
  • It was a grocery and general stores between 1871 and 1957
  • Following a fire in1858 buildings were destroyed and was rebuilt within 6 months
